Created by King Kasyapa in the late 5th century, Sigiriya has won the Universal Awards as the 8th Wonder of the World, delighting the minds of connoisseurs both then and now. Sigiriya murals occupy a very important place among the special ruins of Sigiriya. These murals are one of the oldest preserved paintings in Sri Lanka.

The uniqueness of the Sigiriya murals is that they are only images of Sukumala Lalana, which is slightly smaller than a human being, and are only nude images above the waist. Indigenous materials were used in the drawing, and the most common in the dry zone was used for color processing. That is, cow's milk, spider clay, Ranawara etc. The artist does not try to convey the nature of the paintings and obscures the colors

 

The artist's palm has been able to bring light and bring out the three dimensionality of the images. Also, the Sigiriya paintings look like painted figures in the distance due to the manipulation of the oil palm according to the body shapes. According to the myths of the literature, the Sigiriya painting depicts slender fingers, slender, fleshy broad lips, rounded lips, lips, and long, narrowed corners.

Sigiriya paintings are prominent in the study of secular art in Sri Lanka. At present we find only a small number of paintings in Sigiriya. In addition, paintings can be found at Deraniyagala Cave, Watura Bakkigala Cave and Naipena Cave (Parumaka Cave). Has been. Slightly smaller than a human being, the torso of the Sukumala Lalanawa is the subject of their paintings by Sigiriya artists, and the female figures are drawn out of the clouds by Nikmennase. The Sigiriya paintings are created by couples and individuals posing with golden lions above the waist, and blue lions tied to a breast.

 

Female figures emerge from the clouds, covering the lower part of the hips with clouds. These clouds are golden. The lotus and mahanel flowers that shrink at sunset confirm that it is evening. In the evening, apsara performances are presented in Sigiriya paintings. Some women awaken flowers. Others add flowers to vases. There are also women throwing revived flowers on the ground. Other women look at the flowers. It is mentioned in the Kurutu Gee, that is, a man holding a harp and an old woman on the right side of the painting cave playing a thalampata instrument.

 

The Sigiriya paintings show the woman's connection with the softness, beauty and fragrance of the flowers, as well as the way in which she works with her hands on the flowers according to the rhythm of the music.

Technical principles used

Six principles of art were used in ancient times. Sigiriya paintings are created in accordance with these principles: size, shape, image, aesthetics, colors and simulations. Dimensions: As the Sigiriya paintings show only the upper part, the octagonal pattern is used, although the dimensions of the paintings are indescribable.

Emotion: If emotion is expressed in a painting or sculpture, it can be seen alive.

Beauty: Beauty is the act of adding beauty to a picture. Light should be where it is needed and darkness should be where it is needed. The beauty of the Sigiriya paintings can be clearly seen.

Chromatography: This is a method of manipulating the oil-mixed oil in the drawing. Due to the design on, it belongs to the category of "tempera".

After the recent destruction of the Sigiriya paintings by a person's paint, the paintings were restored by the Italian Dr. Luciano Maranzi.
